Restaurante e Bar Garota de Ipanema

This is the world famous Garota restaurant where the authors wrote the "girl from Ipanema" lyrics. It's an absolute must go to when you're in this beautiful town. Much different than imagined. Although English isn't spoken well in Brazil in this area a quick translation app will normally suffice. The environment was vibrant and service was great. Very nice and considerate Brazilians who are really good at tending to your needs. Again a must see!

We went to enjoy some classic Brazilian dishes and got exactly that. It was evident that the kitchen pushed a lot of food out and the freshness and quality showed that they were fully capable of delivering. The service was performed by a bunch of elderly guys who gave us a warm timely and great service. Definitely a fair share of tourist but a greater share of Brazilians. Definitely a place to come back to and can only highly recommend if you are in the search of fairly priced classic Brazilian food.

I stopped in here for a late lunch while in Rio - absolutely loved it. Very casual, comfortable, super cool ambiance - which went to the next level with a little band playing outside. Extensive menu with absolutely delicious food, well-stocked bar, good service. I got by with very basic Portuguese. You really should stop in if you're in the area. I'll be back if/when I do another Rio trip

I will never visit again and won’t recommend it. It is not vegetarian friendly, understandable, but look at this only vegetarian pasta, just pasta with some oil and garlic... it cost me more than 40reis. I can make way cheaper and better pasta myself. And I brought my friends there specifically because it is said the restaurant is where the composer of The Girl from Ipanema composed the song. So we expected to hear some Bossa nova musics and have a relax atmosphere. But it is totally not. The place was packed with tables, so crowded and people were chatting loudly, i couldn’t even hear my friends clearly in normal voice volume and no musics at all. So stressful to eat there. My friends tried the meat dishes, but they didn’t like it. Then they order the famous one recommended by people, they said it is a bit better but not impressed. I was so embarrassed to bring my friends there and let them spend a lot of money but left disappointed. I checked the reviews before going, thought it should be ok with 4.3 but it is not ok! Remember in Brazil, it is quite common for mediocre restaurants to get over 4. So think twice before you go.
