Part of our history, the Patriotes de St-Denis sur le Richelieu
Very nice guided tour, so much to see and learn! Our 10 and 11 year old children loved doing the Patriot Rally through the streets of the village. We had a lot of fun looking for all the answers while learning about the rebellion of 1837 and the battle of St-Denis. To do with the whole family! $ 10 for 2 adults / 3 children for a hyper educational 1 hour guided tour! Several explanatory panels, statues, cairns etc. The Mâsse house was closed due to renovation of the permanent exhibition, we will definitely come back to visit it!
Nice visit, I recommend it to all those who love history, there are many details to learn about the history of the Patriots. The museum is a little small but very rewarding. The village is also worth visiting, you can also request a free map to learn more about the buildings around. It completes the visit in my opinion. Beautiful view of the Richelieu River.
The museum itself inside is obviously not world class. He is small enough. Quite simple. It lacks a few artifacts. But he friendly and educational. It explains perfectly the causes, the actors and the consequences of the crisis of the Patriots. The young guide at the museum reception was very kind and competent. She studies in archeology.
This museum and the preservation of the Maison Jean-Baptiste-Mâsse which shelters it are essential for our collective memory. We must teach and show our past. And especially protect the heritage. This house is beautifully preserved. The price to get there is very reasonable and it helps with the maintenance of the premises. There is a nice little shop also at the entrance. Nearby, you will discover many other heritage sites (including milling behind) well preserved and beautiful parks. And without forgetting the Richelieu River.
I recommend this historic place.
Very interesting. A young animator very knowledgeable and attentive. Bravo!
