Chinook Financial

Our father Rudolph, a 90 year old war veteran passed away may 1 2016, and since then we have been treated with total disrespect by chinook financial, a division of first connect credit union. My brother had a joint account with our father to prevent any problems with dads estate. For the last 8 years my brother has paid paid our fathers utility bills, insurance billls, credit card bills etc out of this joint account It was our father and mothers wish that their funeral services be paid for out of this account. Upon my dads passing chinook financial locked up the joint account and said nothing is coming out of the account. Patsy and Gloria from drumheller chinook financial stated that it is the standard operating practise of chinook financial to lock up any joint account that has a balance in excess of 20,000 dollars. The only exception is married couples. We still have not had a service for our father because it is his last wish that his service be paid for out of this joint account. Chinook Financial even bounced our parents final utility bills even though there was many thousand dollars in the joint account. Secion 116 (1) (2) (3) of the alberta credit union act states that chinook financial cannot lock up the account but they did anyway. Chinooks staff was rude and aggressive to my brother. Chinook is trying to be nice since we will only communicate with them in writing.. However they caused all the problems. NOTE; after 6 weeks of fighting with chinook financial to try and get our money we finally had the balance transfered to the CIBC. CIBC,s management were professional and efficient and had all the problems that chinook caused us straightened out in 5 minutes.
