United Church of Granby - 1830 - 2010 Originally structured in 1830 as the first Congregational Church, the congregation joined the New Union of Methodists, the Congregational Church and some Presbyterian Churches in 1925 to become The United Church of Canada. A wooden building for the Church was built in 1841, but it was destroyed by fire in 1879. A new brick building was erected on the same site in 1881 and we now see it proudly on the street. Main Granby. Over the years, the congregation grew steadily, developing the Sunday School, which became increasingly important in 1905 and again in 1961. An expansion of the church building was also built in 1916 , to welcome the new Casavant Organ, which proudly represents the greatest joy and pride of the Congregation.
