Timber King Outfitting

I’ve hunted whitetail, moose and mule deer with Rob and the crew at Timberking Outfitting several times but in December 2018 I decided to head south and hunt desert bighorn sheep with them in Sonora, Mexico. I was met in Hermosillo by Rob and head guide Elijah and we drove to sheep camp along a scenic highway through some truly beautiful country. When we arrived in camp I was immediately impressed with the location and accommodations. The mountains surrounding us indicated that we were smack-dab in the middle of sheep country! The local staff and guides were friendly, funny and very professional. I enjoyed my time with them immensely. The food was awesome and was comprised of fresh, genuine local cuisine. And now the hunting. We rose early on Day 1 and started our hike up the mountain. As the sun began to rise, the boys found rams on the ridges overhead. One ram in particular got their attention. We decided to pursue this ram and started our climb in his direction. After several hours of hiking we found him bedded on a slope across from us. After an hour or two waiting for a clean shot, the ram stood and I was fortunate to make the shot. When we walked up to him I couldn’t believe my eyes: here was a heavy, old, full-curl desert bighorn ram. This was truly a dream come true. Sheep aren’t the only game animals here, the area is teeming with coues and desert mule deer. I was lucky and connected on a beautiful mule deer buck at the end of our hunt as well.
