Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse NHS

Pricey but full of history. Lots of up and downhill walking so great for kids. Tidal pools full of creatures down by the lighthouse you can go into. The washrooms are next to the lighthouse. A welcome surprise. Parks Canada has lights everywhere. We would love to go when they are on. Bring a picnic.

Really incredible place to visit, packed full of Canadian history dating back to the first colonization of Vancouver Island. Everything from retired artillery, to massive shoreline search lights and hidden bases, to soldiers' living quarters' and commissary. Walking in the footsteps of some of those young British men in a new land, seeing the photos of them standing right where you can stand, is very interesting. Would be great for all ages, lots of information and learning opportunities for young kids up to adults.

It's a beautiful location and excellent self guided tour. Although there are tour guides available to answer questions, the staff were incredibly nice and helpful, which made such an enjoyable experience. The lighthouse is nice with a beautiful view. The upper and lower cannon emplacements are really interesting and historical.

Lovely sunny peaceful day. Nice calming place to walk around.
