Art Gallery of Alberta

Change my review from five stars to two. Used to take my daughter there on a regular basis I thought it was great. I paid for a membership.. However the last time I went to go visit it was approximately 45 minutes before they closed, there was not a soul in sight and the person at the front desk told me that there is no walk in traffic. I said my daughter and I come to the art gallery all the time and we can probably do the whole art gallery in 10 minutes however the individual at the front desk would not let us in. The exhibits never change I do not think I will be renewing my membership

Good for a small gallery, plenty of local and Canadian based artists featured here. Several amazing exhibits of old European art, ancient East Indian art, and more. Loved the Nests at the End of The World exhibit & Dutch Old Masters.

I loved the display for Rembrandt! We were able to get within a few inches to look at the fine detail. I wish they had benches for sitting, but I understand why they don't. Group of Seven was good and the odd exhibits show the diversity of the Artists' ideas. As always the building itself is worth the trip.

I honestly expected more art but was not disappointed. When I went, there was a simulcast art gallery with another in Europe which was bonkers and cool, there was an interactive art exhibit where guests could leave sticky notes to a question, and there was a lot of good pieces with area history. Not too mention, the whole building is one giant piece of art itself. Definitely recommend popping in.

Collections could be a bit more diverse. There’s a collection on display where the painters proudly call themselves the “dominant race.” Guessing art needs to be controversial...
