I always bring guests to this spot to learn about the history of the North island. This place was renovated recently and it was really brought back to life. You can learn a lot about the local whale populations with a little reading. The lady at the front desk at the time of my visit was pleasant as well. It's well worth the meager admission fee.
A beautiful setting, fantastic founder with the most interesting stories and facts about his museum, a wonderful gift shop and all the whale bones are breathtaking!
It was great - lots of whale skeletons & interesting displays, with staff that were enthusiastic about answering questions. Pieces of baleen which you could actually touch, teeth, etc. Lots to see even in this small space.
Very peaceful browsing here, was taking lots of photos & enjoying the displays very much....until the tour bus full of rude, extremely inconsiderate Chinese tourists arrived. Unfortunately, staff at the center do little to control the quiet within. The adults were worse than their kids in their behaviour, having zero consideration for other visitors to the museum. I would have liked to visit much longer, but I left as soon as the Chinese tourists entered & started yelling at the top of their lungs. The noise was unbearable.
Telegraph Cove should ban all tour buses from coming through this area. The staff at this center also really need to deal with disruptive idiots like these tourists as soon as the decibel level starts climbing. They ruin an otherwise nice experience for absolutely everyone. We won't be returning after this fiasco, unfortunately.
Great place with very friendly and informative staff.
So informative and really amazing that they have kept such records of the wild life in the area!! Would be nice if it was a bit more organized, but they run off of donations so it's understandable.
