The WORST border crossing experience of our life! And we’ve crossed many borders in the past, including the States! Our plan was to visit my husband’s sister in Vegas, who is an American citizen, who we’ve visited in the past but haven’t seen in years and also visit some national parks for a couple of months. My sister in law had booked time of work and had been preparing for our visit. We are Canadian citizens traveling in our camper and had no reason to believe we would have any hassle. Instead, we were met with hostility and treated like criminals! After FIVE HOURS of them going through our vehicle and questioning us separately multiple times, they finally denied us! We couldn’t believe it! Especially since my husband holds a valid ten year US visa in his old passport. They threatened to bar us from entering the country for five years if we questioned them any further. Because we were planning such a long trip we had already given up our apartment. They said that because we don’t currently have a home (I guess our camper doesn’t count) they believed we wouldn’t leave the country. Since we had given up our apartment to escape the winter in our camper we asked if it was possible to at least pass through to Mexico. They said we could try again another day for a transit visa if we want to pass through to Mexico but if we tried to visit the States again before getting a residence in Canada we would for sure be bared for five years. And, just I’m case you’re wondering, living with your parents as an adult is not an option! We came back the next day for a transit visa and again they were extremely rude to us. It felt like they were just trying instigate us so that we would be rude back and that would give them a reason to deny us. We did not give them the satisfaction. Both yesterday and today we remained calm and courteous even as we were treated like criminals for no apparent reason. Neither my husband or myself have as much as a speeding ticket under our name! And, we both have a long history of travel - including never overstaying our visa. We were shocked and disappointed by the treatment we received from our “brothers and sisters” across the border. In the end we were given a four day transit visa to cross over to Mexico and warned not to try to cross back with our original plan visit my sister in law. This would result in a five year bar! Even if we feel comfortable traveling to Mexico our families are now worrying needlessly. My sister in law took time of work for no reason. This is truly ridiculous! If anyone has suggestions on further steps we can take please respond to this post.

I travel often through this crossing. Stopped once to have my vehicle searched as I had dog food. I never checked the flat of canned food that carefully. They confiscated the food that had lamb and provided me with a list of what is ok to cross with. All good no big deal. Always have a decent experience, odd questions sometimes but always decent to cross here. Hope to cross again soon! Can't wait for the borders to open.

Crossed this border 3 months back or so, the guys working at it were amazing! The US entry side was great and told me to drive carefully, as I was alone and a female driving to Nevada. Extremely nice guy! I wish i could remember your name. I was the girl who came there at 3 am mid March. Thank you for being so awesome! And the Canadian side on my way back you were all so good and understanding as well, it was late when i managed to cross the border a week later on my way back and you gave me no hassle, thank you so much i was exhausted! Great employees and very understanding. Thank you again I appreciate your kindness ❤️😊

Tried to get a travel trailer into US (Friday) first time officers were nice and polite and tried to help us get all we needed but got turned around and we’re stuck in Canada. (Monday-Tuesday) Second and third time told us we needed a broker and after paying and filling out all the paperwork they told us we needed to get the trailer inspected by DOT but we can’t bring the trailer into the US??? Canada has different regulations and wouldn’t be able to get it inspected in Canada for US regulations!!? Asked them what to do and said “it’s not our problem”
