Tax(ad)Vise

Did you know if you and your spouse don't both file tax returns you cannot receive the Child Tax Benefit? Even if one of you doesn't make an income? I certainly didn't. In short filing only for the primary breadwinner is not sufficient and will cost you household income by way of the Child Tax Benefit. Not having this brought to my attention as a customer of this business is incredibly underwhelming and now the only thing more disappointing is needing to reapply for the tax benefit and possibly wait months for it. I would not recommend this business.

Veronique is very knowledgeable and gets you the maximum return. She is very assertive and doesn’t have great bedside manner but I appreciate how she tells it like it is and gives us great advice. Fees are a little higher but worth it if you sre getting a better return than you would with other accountants. She didn’t try to upsell us either. We have used her for 3 years now and will continue.

Veronica was very pushy, and not knowledgeable about CRA credits. Tried to push me into putting money into RRSPs for the HBP, and didn't listen when I told her I don't qualify for it, until I convinced her to bring up the website. Also yelled at me about an investment account that I don't have, and wouldn't listen to me, told me I was wrong, when I told her that it wasn't mine. She was also noncommunicative about her fees. She quoted me a base price, did not advise that it would increase to almost 250% of that. Did not call to tell me after completing the first year. She claims that no business would advise their customers if the estimate was off by that much. She also filed everything in my maiden name, even though I was married for all of the years I was filing for, getting married partway through the first year.

What a process. Appointment took forever, she took calls to order craft supplies while we waited. Had to return several times to correct errors, tried to chase us down for child tax forms (we had no children), huge fee. Also tried to make us feel guilty for not having more investments, and tried to sell us life insurance products.

There were numerous errors on my tax return. Very expensive fee. I ended up getting someone else to fix my taxes.
