If you are looking for an upscale restaurant with excellent food in pictou county, the pictou lodge is where to go. I have never had a disappointing experience dining at the lodge. A great location for weddings, anniversaries, birthday party’s or family photos. Their Sunday brunch buffet used to be amazing (I believe covid-19 put a stop to that) and I hope it comes back someday.
Meals come with warm biscuits which are very good.
Right now I definitely recommend the chicken tagliatelle for pasta lovers!
A perfect summer day driving into the resort. Immediately one felt a presence of warmth and calm. Check in was professional, informative and friendly. The dining room was open and beautiful views. Dinner began with a biscuit and molasses butter. Was unsure on the molasses butter, a treat indeed. Ordered the fish and was absolutely delicious. Loved my room with my own quaint little deck. Walking the grounds, right on the beach, was calming and relaxing. The staff were always ensuring the safety of guests, masks at all times(they weren’t mandatory at this point) and always made their guests comfortable. They have quaint local crafts and art, for sale In their lobby. Breakfast was delicious. Absolutely a perfect vacation spot for families, couples or that solo road trip where one just needs that time to refresh ones batteries. This is a get away that offers everything you may need, especially that rest we all desire. I’ll be back. Thank you to Wes and his great staff for creating a place of summer safety with fun, good food, great rest and a perfect summer get away.
Was here with my wife to visit a family member staying at the lodge. The place is really NICE! Beautiful views overlooking the ocean and night light filled with stars was breathtaking! Has spots for bonfires and outdoor seating options. Great place to enjoy nature's beauty! Rooms are all wood and log cabins (depending on the type of dwelling option you choose).
Overall service could be better and a few more parking spots would be nice. All in all its a great get-away place in the beautiful Pictou County, NS. THANK YOU!
It was a good stay, (4 nights btw) nothing stuck out as over-the-top but it was definitely worth the trip in the long run. A bit expensive for the cottage, and there wasn't too many things going on that you could do on the resort, and besides the fact that the cabins are a tad dated, it was definitely sad to see the fire ban preventing us from spending much time outside in the evening, with the resort staff putting out more fire pits mid-week which was confusing since they didn't lift the ban (bit of a tease). Overall; worth a stay if you've never been, but probably not a place I'd make a return visit.
We decided to check out Pictou Lodge for our anniversary trip. We rented a lower level of the executive suites. The rooms are nice and the property very much has a campground feel. It's right on the ocean and connected to a large beach and close to a provincial park. This place was highly recommended by a few friends over the years and most people have given us positive feedback.
PROS: It's a nice spot. Right on the water. Campfire pits in many locations. They have bikes and games to use for everyone staying on site. It would be a great location to book for a large group or event like a wedding where everyone can stay and rent the entire resort.
CONS: We did not have a great experience. When we first arrived, there were people from the next unit over playing games in our backyard area, being loud and obnoxious. They joked about being in our space. This is not something the staff can control easily, so we brushed it off. However, it's not really posted or explained anywhere whose space is whose, so it's very confusing for guests. The resort needs to address this issue. It was very awkward for us when neighbours are not being respectful of our "space" which we paid a lot of money to enjoy.
The first night was rough. The upstairs unit at around 11pm was very loud. There was yelling, screaming, crashing, banging and fighting until 2:30 AM. We didn't sleep. We addressed this with staff the next day and they let us know to call if it happens again.
The next morning we tried to enjoy a quiet coffee in the back yard of our unit. It was immediately interrupted by the same group as the first day (next door unit upstairs). They were playing more games, with flying objects passing by our heads and they were using our space. It was awkward. We decided to call front desk and they said they would send someone. A maintenance staff member eventually showed up. He parked his cart right in front of us and stared blankly at us for a few minutes without saying anything. We then mentioned it was awkward and were not sure what to do. He then spoke to the group, asked them to move their game over, then asked us in front of them if that was enough. 100% wrong way to handle this. We were already uncomfortable. We wanted the staff to mediate the situation to avoid conflict, but instead he directed the entire situation in front of them to us. Letting them know, very well, that we were the ones who called and asked them to sort out the situation. Before leaving, he said "Hope you have a good day. I'm not". It put a very bad tone on the rest of our experience.
The main lodge dining experience was so so. We tried four different dishes. The deserts were great, especially the deep fried apple pie. The appetizers were decent, but the main courses were not enjoyable. Ingredient parings were off - white pasta with snow peas (bitter) was not a good combination, etc.
Overall, this lodge is designed and laid out as a campground. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway or relaxing experience. Most of the staff were accommodating and friendly, but I think overall they need some serious improvements.
