Great experience! We saw 3 sloths and lots of other great creatures! Steve Gallo our guide was great in both English and Spanish. Highly recommended and affordable night tour.
The price is $25 cash, but they will charge you 13% VAT if you pay with credit. You can decide if you want to support a business like this. It's not clear how employees are paid when the business operates in the grey market.
Our tour itself was nice. We had a great guide who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We saw a sloth, tarantula, tree snake, and a scorpion.
It was a fair bit of walking so make sure to have good shoes and dress warmly.
What an exciting adventure! We saw lots of really unique animals! We saw a sloth, an armadillo, scorpion, birds, and frogs just to name a few. Louis our tour guide was fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about all the animals, and he was so good at spotting them!
Perfect place to do a night tour...much cheaper entrance fee than one of the big forests and there was plenty to see. I was hesitant to do a day tour and night one too, but it was such a different experience and I really enjoyed it. We got to explore using flashlights and got to see lots of activity that we didn't see during a day tour, including two sloths and a viper. I recommend using a guide who has a spotting scope and binoculars. We were able to get good pictures and videos through the spotting scope which was really nice. Make sure to bring a rain jacket and comfortable hiking or athletic shoes.
My husband and I got a private tour which was a little more expensive than a group tour and it was well worth it. We used Roy and were very pleased with our experience and booked this night tour after we met him at the day tour for the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You can search for "Roy the local nature guide" on TripAdvisor. You can also read my detailed review on there titled, "Sloths, Birds, and Vipers, Oh My!" He has not been on TripAdvisor for long so he doesn't have many reviews but he has been a guide for 12+ years and speaks great English.
The tour bus picked us up around 5 30 pm - right on time . The tour was for around 2 hours. Our guide was Dennis , and was very knowledgeable, and also good at spotting animals. All guides have a walkie talkie , so if one group spots something other groups are informed. We saw stick insect , sloth , butterfly, mot mot bird , unknown bird , viper snake , tarantula , grasshopper.
