Red Parrot Jaco Costa Rica (05/15/2020)
It is 1 am. And I live in Jaco. This company is in San Jose 2 hours away from me. I get a text message that this Salon charged my credit card for $176. At 1 a.m. in the morning! I immediately check my wallet. My credit card is in my wallet but this company shows up as charging my card for $176 at 1 a.m. in the morning. I've never even heard of this company! Complete frauds!

My girlfriend went to get a hair cut and got totally ripped off. They gave her one price and made her false promises and then completely overcharged her. Scam places like these should be closed down or reported to the police! Shame on you!

I live in Costa Rica and come to SJO often. I walked around the mall looking for a place to cut my hair, this was the only one available. I walked into a very slow Salon and the lady at the desk noticed my spanish was not good and probably thought i was a tourist. I asked for a trim and she sits me down where i wait 5 minutes. I see that she is hiding behind the wall whispering to Brian which i thought was weird. Brian then comes to me (speaks perfect english btw!) He keeps it quite cold and frank and tries to up-sell me on their Keratin Treatment. At first i was not interested as i do not like hard chemicals in my hair. He then said there are no chemicals at all. I ask for the price and he offers the Keratin Treatment for 25’000 colones. The haircut is also 25’000. He seemed pushy and said if i get the Keratin Treatment he would cut my hair for free. So I said yes wanting to give him a try in good faith. The whole time he never asked my name, where i was from ect. Never trying to spark up a conversation. He cut my hair and then added this spray all around my hair with no cover or protection which immediately made my skin and eyes burn severely. My nose started to burn and so did my throat. It got worse and he saw that i was clearly very uncomfortable as my eyes were extremely irritated. I could barely keep my eyes open it was so bad. When it got even worse and i started coughing and eyes red and watering i could not handle it and he finally got me a wet towel to put over my face. Not trying to calm me down or reassure me. Meanwhile the girl at the till did nothing but stare down every customer in the salon. Honestly, this was the most uncomfortable treatment ever. He then straightened my hair and he burnt my head and didn’t apologize. At this point i wanted to just get out as i was understandably uncomfortable. But i was very respectful and didn’t want to complain (eyes still burning). I then go to the till and the same girl and Brian were standing together whispering again and then they told me the whole treatment was 45’000 colones ($75 converted)! They both saw that i was clearly surprised and not very happy. Brian then says “the haircut i gave you for free” trying to justify. Seriously?? A Keratin Treatment costs $75 when you quoted me half of that INCLUDING the hair cut before??? The girl at the till and Brian were clearly in on it together from the beginning. I never know how to handle these situations unfortunately...so i paid. As i paid he then asks me out of nowhere where i live. When i told him i live in Costa Rica him and the girl seemed super surprised, probably hoping i was a stupid one time tourist. They seemed a bit embarrassed at that point. Obviously i did not tip. I am in Escazu all the time and was hoping to find a hairdresser to go back to but i guess they blew it!! Karma will come around somehow. Don’t bother going here!!
