What a fantastic and beautiful farm! The hosts/owners were kind and hospitable and very knowledgeable. He explained the importance and use and purpose of many plants and animals. He made delicious coffee and showed us every part of the process from growing the plants to roasting to brewing. It was a real treat to get to have this experience from people so passionate about what they do! And his wife made a delicious lunch too. Can't recommend it enough. Great people. Great place.

YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TOUR! I don't understand how other people left 3 and 4 stars reviews... This is without any doubt a 5 five stars tour. You get the chance to see a real AUTHENTIC permaculture/organic coffee farm! Jose is the third of his generation to cultivate this land. Jose is a very knowledgeable coffee beans growers who share is passion with simplicity and humbleness. Like if this was not enough, the tour includes an excellent lunch. This activity was definitely the highlight of our trip here in Costa Rica. Thank you very much Jose !

We looked at all the tours in the area and we are 100% sure we made the right choice here. You won't see it on lists of best coffee tours yet because they started tours relatively recently. The farm is currently run by the third generation of farmers. If you're looking for a tour in the San Jose area, this is the one to do. The tour is extremely authentic and informative! Not only did we learn about all the stages of coffee, we also learned about the sustainability of their farm and other small organic farms in the area. Being on the tour felt like we were going through all the stages that they do everyday in their coffee making. Another really cool part was seeing the other things they grew in the farm to create kind of a self-sustaining ecosystem to support the coffee. We got to smell and hold all sorts of herbs and plants and heard about their different uses. At the end of the tour, we had a lot of fun playing a game. We were poured three glasses of coffee and had to guess which one was dark, medium, and light roast after the guide explained the ways we could tell them apart by sight, smell, and taste. It was still really hard and only 2/4 got it right! Also, we were fed an amazing lunch of rice, salad, and fish! We also got to try their delicious coffee wine and coffee tea! Bring cash or reserve on Airbnb experiences. Also, make sure you bring cash to buy the coffee, coffee wine, soap, and/or tea! You will want some after trying it at the end of the tour! 12/10 dopes

What a wonderful tour! Jose and his wife were great hosts and genuinely nice people. It was a pleasure to learn more about the production of coffee from Jose - his love for farming and care for the environment were obvious. If you don't want to be part of a big tourist group, this is the tour for you. Seriously, do the coffee tour at Tio Jose! You won't regret it.

Great Tour and lunch! Jose is passionate and knowledgeable about organic farming and coffee production and the large variety of other plants they grow! Fun and Interesting Tour and tastings of a large variety of coffee roasts, beans, coffee wine and other fruits and herbs they grow for food and medicinal on their farm! Jose spoke English for us and his wife was an excellent hostess for the tastings and optional lunch after the tour!
