Red wood - Rothenbaum. One of the many extinct villages of the Czech-German border. A place that is definitely worth a visit, as well as for reflection and perhaps peaceful contemplation. Today, the practically extinct settlement lay west of Nýrsko about 1 km from the border with Germany and less than a kilometer north of the village of Fleka to which it belonged. The settlement was founded at the same time as the church and the parish around 1680 on the Kout estate. According to tradition, a tree painted red with a carved Marian picture stood at the allegedly healing spring in the place, hence the name. A pilgrimage chapel was built above the spring in 1834. Červené Dřevo remained a small settlement with only 12 houses, but it was a parish for the neighboring much larger villages of Liščí and Fleky. After the war, the German population was displaced, and in the 1950s, border barricades separated the church, parish, cemetery and pilgrimage chapel from the desolate settlement. Only one house remained from the settlement. The church with a chapel and a rectory were looted after the war and demolished in the late 1950s. After 1990, the place was reverently renovated, the foundations of the church were restored, a wooden cross was erected and the cemetery where the found tombstones were placed was cleaned.
