Národní přírodní rezervace Ransko

Ransko National Nature Reserve is a biocentre of supraregional importance, it was declared on an area of ​​695.4 ha on 27 January 1997 by a decree of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. It is located in the westernmost part of the large Protected Landscape Area Žďárské vrchy. However, already in 1956, in the former Czechoslovakia, a protected area was declared in a smaller area under the name of the Staré Ransko state nature reserve (the name according to the cadastral area in which it is situated for the most part). In 1989, the Ranská bahna state nature reserve (named after the Bahna forest locality in the nature reserve) was expanded and established. Most of the area is NPR Ransko located in the cadastral area of ​​Staré Ransko, part of the town of Krucemburk and the southern edge in the cadastral area of ​​the town of Havlíčkova Borová. Both villages are located in the district of Havlíčkův Brod, belonging to the Vysočina Region in the Czech Republic. On the territory of NPR Ransko is the largest stand of spring snowdrop in the whole area of ​​the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, the forest complex is composed of many ecosystems, important are the forest communities of ash alders, beech forests and pine forests on a serpentine subsoil. In August 2014, a fruiting body of a fungus called Ramaria testaceoflava was found in the Ransko National Park, then in the only place in the whole of the Czech Republic. From the point of view of the regional geomorphological division of the Czech Republic, the Křižanovská vrchovina (Henzlička district) is located in a larger area in the geomorphological unit, and the northwestern peripheral part is located in the Hornosázavská pahorkatina (Přibyslavská pahorkatina district). In the Křižanovská vrchovina, the ridge with the geographical name Ranský Babylon (674 m above sea level) is the highest point within the NPR Ransko. The targeted trigonometric point with the name Babylon only is situated at an altitude of 673.2 m northeast of the highest point of the terrain at an altitude of 674.4 m (at the top of Ranský Babylon there is a geodetic point marked 11.3). NPR Ransko is in the care of the Administration of the Protected Landscape Area Žďárské vrchy within the Agency for Nature and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic, movement is allowed only on marked roads or tourist routes. The Ranské polesí nature trail runs along the perimeter of the NPR, and in the eastern part also with the 4122 cycle route. A quiet natural area for walks in a forest environment and with undemanding terrain, except for a larger elevation gain on a forest road from Starý Ransko through the top part of Ranský Babylon to the Ranská jezírka nature reserve. I recommend to visit, some forest paths suitable for children. At the northern edge of the NPR, several ponds suitable for recreation and swimming, for example called Řeka, Ranský rybník and Pobočný rybník with waterfowl, fed by water from the river Doubrava.
