The small village of Potůčník today is basically just a settlement of cottagers over the town of Hanušovice, but still at the beginning of the 21st century there were about twenty inhabitants. However, there is still one interesting historical monument. This is the ruins of the Chapel. John and Paul, surrounded by a small German cemetery with several tombstones. However, the village in the Šumperk region was formerly called Lauterbach and this larger chapel may have been rather a small rural foothill church. The cemetery chapel was built in 1839, but after the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans the building began to deteriorate quickly. It was even said that the chapel was burned by the Czech inhabitants, but apparently it was only a rumor. It was not until 1991 that the builder Vaclav Tomek, who repaired the church - with financial support from Germany - was rebuilt on the chapel to such a state that it was re-consecrated in 1997 and after a very long time (about 50 years). The reconstruction work continued, but in 2007 the chapel was struck by lightning and the whole roof, including the roof, burnt down. Today, the building is again under reconstruction and, like the cemetery, is freely accessible. At least this is the case at present. It is a single-nave building of rectangular ground plan with a semicircular presbytery and an entrance hall. It is again completely roofed, but the original sanktusníková turret is missing. Electrical connection renewal is also under preparation. Part of the masonry is grouted or roughly plastered and windows are also repaired. Personally, I must admit that I liked its purely ruined appearance more and I only hope that the overall plaster. The stone form looks very beautiful. Chapel of st. John and Paul and the land beneath it is the property of the Church, which in this case, however, cares too much for their property. That is why the Chapel of the Belfry was included in the “imaginary” list of the most endangered and most damaged buildings of this type in the Czech Republic. And one more tourist information at the end: the red TZ leads in close proximity.
