Great. Loved my early childhood up there. Good teachers and pupils. Went there when I was 5. Nostalgy.

Milíč's House, a facility for after-school education of children, was opened in Prague's Žižkov on Christmas Eve in 1933. Its construction was organized by preacher and social worker Přemysl Pitter. The house was named after the preacher Jan Milic of Kromeriz. The construction of Milíč's house was devised and organized by a lay preacher, social worker, publicist and humanist Přemysl Pitter. After the First World War he worked as a member of the Trust of Youth Care in Žižkov, where he became acquainted with the poor living conditions of local families. He wanted to focus on preventive work with children and since the early 1920s he organized parties for street children. They were held in the garden pavilion of the Na Vysince pub, but it was necessary to find other suitable premises, therefore the idea of building Milíč's house arose. Přemysl Pitter founded the Milíč's House Building Cooperative, collected funds from small donors and contributors and bought the land. An architectural competition was announced for the construction, in which the project of architect Ervín Katona from Žižkov won. The realization was taken by builder Karel Skorkovský from Vinohrady, who carried out the construction in two stages (in 1933 the ground floor building was opened, in 1936 the second floor was completed) and financed it from his own resources. The construction cooperative then repaid Milíč's house. Milíč's house was equipped for children, there were workshops, club room, reading room, gym, music hall and garden with playground and flower beds. Children under the supervision of educators were doing school tasks, attending hobby groups, working in the workshop and in the garden, doing sports. In addition to the educational care, children were also taken care of physically - bathed regularly, were under medical supervision and received snacks, supplemented in the season with their own gardening cultivation. All the food was vegetarian. Food and clothing were distributed among the neediest families wherever possible. Teachers - Olga Fierz, Ferdinand Krch, Margit Beck, Lisa Sattler, Rott, Magda Pilbauer, Ida Tyčová and others - led children to independence and practicality, responsibility and moral values. Parents were informed about educational activities at parental meetings, which were always accompanied by a cultural program. Educators did the work voluntarily and for free. Until the autumn of 1938, the city of Prague paid only a handicraft teacher. Later, a nursery school teacher was assigned here and during the war the nursery school graduates helped out. In 1938, we managed to build a year-round sanatorium in Mýto near Rokycany, where children from Milíč's house stayed for a long time and attended a local school. During the summer holidays, holiday villages for children were organized in Myto. The activities of Milíč's House were based on voluntary cooperation and have always been very close to solidarity. In 1934 there were children of German immigrants who had to flee from Nazi Germany. During the German occupation, Milíč's house became a center of secret support for persecuted Jewish families. The operation of Milíč's house as a shelter was disrupted after 1948 and was forcibly terminated in December 1949. The building has been used since 1953 as a week-long youth club. Since 1976 there has been a nursery school, which in 2001 took the honorary name Milíč's House Nursery School. Today's school concept is based on the ideas of Přemysl Pittr, trying to fulfill his principles of tolerance, openness and personal example. It also emphasizes active cooperation with parents and their privileged position and influence on child upbringing. Children with special educational needs are integrated in the school. [3] On the second floor of Milíč's house the room where Přemysl Pitter lived and worked was preserved. It has been made available to the public and can be viewed by prior telephone order. It houses a table and items by Přemysl Pittro and period photographs.

Both children attended kindergarten. Both Mrs. Pelcl's approach and the overall "family" atmosphere in the kindergarten are amazing.
