Dominant of Kostelec nad Orlicí. Very nice church, it's a pity that there was no opportunity to see it inside.

The church is located in the city center, in the southern line of Jirásek Square and significantly contributes to the silhouette of the city. It is a registered cultural monument in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under No. 14041 / 6-2297. The first reports date back to 1323. On the site of an old Gothic building it built by builder František Kermer from Hradec Kralove in the years 1769-1773 in the late Baroque style. Today's appearance is from that time. In 1891-93 extensive repairs were carried out. The ground plan consists of a cross. The presbytery is triangularly enclosed with a square sacristy in the axis. The western facade is dominated by a pair of towers. The longitudinal nave is vaulted by three fields of barrel vaults with lunettes in strips, a transverse nave in a dome crossing and in the shoulders always by one field of a barrel vault with lunettes. The presbytery is barrel vaulted with lunettes. The western façade has a huge buttress with a pair of half-pillars and half-columns. Top of the gable, are flanked by volutes, dominating the west facade is highlighted by two prismatic towers with two Baroque compressed helmet. Above the entrance to the sacristy is carved the year 1773. The equipment of the church is from the same time, penetrating pseudo-style renovated in 1893, when the overall repair of the church. The main altar is framed, with the painting of St. George by A. Werner from 1891, statues of angels above the gates are from J. Pacák from around 1735. The tabernacle is a late Gothic wooden statue of Madonna, col. 1500 between two adored angels from y. 1778. The four side altar rank among late Rococo dated al. 1780. In the podvěží Chapel of St. Cross with the sculptural group Calvary, almost classicist rounds. The pulpit is Rococo, around 1780, a bench from the same time. Stations of the Cross by A. Muhl according to Fuhrich: a painting of St. Alois by J. Umlauf from 1892. Tin baptismal font from 1540 by Konvar Vaclav. The church has a repaired roof and yellow-colored plaster. The new facade of two towers and the main façade was made by the construction company LAGUNA Solnice in 1995-96, including painting and repair. In this context, all the old plumbing elements in this part of the building were replaced by copper material. Back to the interior of the church was placed from the exterior, from the northern wall of the presbytery, in 2007 restored sandstone sculpture in a life-size (approx. 1.3 m) statue of Moses in the Renaissance style, round. 1600. Standing bearded man in skirt, doublet and cloak, holding right hand plate (ten). The face is upset. She originally carried a pulpit. Repair of wiring and subsequent painting of the interior of the church preceded one of the last modifications, modification - connection of heating mats in the pews inside the church in 2012. In 2014, two old windows without stained glass on the church nave were renewed. One year before this restoration, the stained glass window was restored. This year the owner commissioned the restoration of the second stained glass window.
