The church is very nice both outside and inside, full of Czech history. The park outside is nice too but mostly closed. But: the church ambience was totally ruined for us by a guardian lady who was always suspiciously watching us from 1m distance whatever we did. And we read info sheets and looked at the distant decorations. Beware.

This was one of the highlights of my three-year tour of the Přemyslid castles, fortified settlements, and the localities associated with them. I stood in front of the graves and the box with the skulls of Wenceslas II. (son of Přemysl Otakar II) and his daughter, Czech queen Eliška Přemyslovna. I can't describe the feeling to you enough, but I'll remember it for the rest of my life. Church of st. James was built between 1650 - 1654, and replaced the three-nave Gothic Church of Our Lady, destroyed during the Hussite storms after 1420. On Sunday, June 23, 1991, the remains of the last Přemyslids - the aforementioned skull of King Wenceslas II . and Eliška Přemyslovny, the skull and skeleton of the unknown Přemyslid, the skull and skeleton of Sister Charles IV. Elizabeth (daughters of Jan Lucemburský and Eliška Přemyslovna) and unidentifiable parts of skeletons of several individuals. The remains were stored in lead boxes. The church between the former monastery and the castle - today private. Beautiful baroque decoration. Saved remains of the last Přemyslids. It is worth a visit, although moving through the park is at your own risk. 😉

Fortunately, the church above the royal graves is open to worship. Do not hesitate, it is an important national place and there are interesting artifacts.
