To the south of the Emmausky monastery, on the street Troyskaya, there rises a small church named after the Most Holy Trinity. The history of this temple is inextricably linked with the monastery itself.
According to legend, the Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1353 on the spot where the church of St. Andrew once stood.
Craftsmen employed in the construction of the Emmaus Monastery, in their free time worked for free and the construction of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity. Therefore, when you suddenly hear from the locals that this is the church of "all artisans", do not be surprised - this is how people remember the memory of the disinterested work of craftsmen. It should be noted that the construction of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity was not spent a penny, as the workers took all the building material from the construction site of the monastery.
During the Hussite Wars, in 1420, the temple of the Most Holy Trinity was destroyed. Only with the onset of peacetime, he was able to recover. The temple became the center of one of the poorest parishes of Prague, and it was possible to maintain it in proper condition with great difficulty. The most significant donations for its maintenance were collected only on the feast day, when pilgrims from other parts of Prague flocked to the temple.
In the 18th century there were several attempts to bring the building in order. In 1728-1729 the nave of the church was expanded. In 1751, the Golgotha Chapel was attached to it. In the years 1781-1782 - an octagonal sacristy and a new bell tower were built. As a result, by the end of the century the building was completely renovated and its appearance acquired some baroque features. In 1871, the lobby was built in front of the entrance to the church, which gave the building volume and conciseness.
An impressive building that has the magical charm of old sacral buildings. Its location near the Vyšehrad mine certainly contributes to the overall impression of this interesting building. Unfortunately, the church interior can only be admired by some days that are intended for the public. The loci genius of this place will surely attract his very interesting surroundings.
Small and beautiful church with its bulb-shaped tower.
Beautiful experience of the action of night churches
