The Petrin Plateau was used in the Middle Ages as a marl quarry for many Prague buildings. Garden landscaping began to be carried out here from the middle of the 19th century on the initiative of Karel Count Chotek, another extensive landscaping took place in the 1930s, including connections with the surrounding orchards. The landscaping was carried out during the 19th century by unknown landscape architects. The area between the southern border of the Lobkovická Garden and the Hungry Wall was converted into a park after 1836 according to a design by Jiří Braul. Between the maze and the lookout tower, the area is divided in plan according to the principle of the Czech flag.
