The foundation stone for today's Loreto Chapel was laid by Florian Jetrich of Zdar on 12 June 1623. It is one of the oldest in Bohemia. The oldest one comes from 1584, and you can find it in Horšovský Týn in Domažlice. The construction of the chapel lasted two years and on 2 June 1625 it was consecrated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Loreto, the prince-Archbishop of Prague, Arnošt Vojtěch, Cardinal of Harrach. The chapel immediately became a popular pilgrimage site and even helped to inspire the establishment of Loreta in Prague. A few years later, the original chapel was pulled down in 1630 to be replaced by a more accurate copy of the Italian model and again consecrated with great interest by the Cardinal of Harrach.
