It was built in the early 12th century and was first dedicated to St. Štěpán, when it also served as a parish church of the small village Rybníček, which has been developing in these places since the 10th century. After the foundation of the New Town of Prague by Charles IV. in the middle of the 14th century, a new church of Sts. Stephen and the rotunda were consecrated in honor of St. Longina. In the 17th century the building was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and a Baroque lantern was added at the top. By order of Joseph II. In 1783 the chapel was closed for worship purposes. In the 19th century it was to be demolished during the construction of Na Rybníčku street, but it was not thanks to František Palacký and the National Museum Society. Today the chapel serves the Greek-Catholic Church and is used by the Military and Hospitaller Order of Sts. Lazarus of Jerusalem. The Rotunda Folk Festival takes place every year in the adjacent area, where it is also possible to see the rotunda. [1]
