The first and oldest church in Cheb Jana stood in the middle of a merchant settlement under the castle on today's Janské Square, which was named after him. The church was built around 1140. In 1809, the church was destroyed by fire and removed three years later only from historical sources and reconstructed according to the original foundations. According to these reports, it was a three-nave Romanesque church with a cross vault on four columns and a square choir.
