The beautiful church is just a pity that despite the poor interiors, the catacombs are still inaccessible to the public.
My childhood and adolescent stupidity :-)
If we go from Masaryk Square through the city parks further west through the bridge on the river Nežárka and head up the hill, we reach the church of Sts. James. Originally, perhaps this place used to be an observation fortress, later a church with a turret. It is recalled in 1518, when the Way of the Cross was established with eleven stops. In the last century it was extended to 14th stop. It is said that a secret passage leads from the castle, and there is a hidden treasure in these corridors. In 1605, Mary Maximilian Hohenzollern, the consort of Jáchym Oldřich of Hradec, had the church rebuilt. In 1793 it was abolished, and in the 1840s it served as a pulpit. In 1856, a neo-Gothic church (in 1860 consecrated) was demolished and built in its place by J. Kocáb. Below it was a cellar, which served as the tomb of the Czernins. Evžen Černín (1796-1868), who had the Neo-Gothic church built, had from Vienna transferred the bodies of his parents and two small sisters, he himself was buried here and after him his successors. The last Černín was deposited here in 1932 - JUDr. R. Černín.
The ship enters from the facade of the hall below the tower. In the tympanum above the entrance is the Crucified with the Virgin Mary and St. Janem od Fr. Maliovského. The entrance to the tomb is below the northern wall of the church. The surrounding park was modified by forest manager Wachtl in 1854-1856. Source: Wikipedia
The present church originated on the site of the original demolished church in the years 1859 - 1860.
Especially in autumn it really has its magic here.
