Lavička Václava Havla

Václav Havel's bench was created from the proceeds of the public collection and the financial contribution of the Statutory City of Karlovy Vary. The work was created by Bořek Šípek in collaboration with the Václav Havel Library and with the kind permission of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VISION 97. Karlovy Vary has joined the sides of such places as Washington, Barcelona, ​​Dublin, Venice, Prague, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové or Plzeň, which already have Havel's place. The public collection for Havel's Place in Karlovy Vary took place from June to October 2014 and raised almost twenty thousand. The necessary remaining money, approximately 260 thousand crowns for the acquisition of a work of art and landscaping, was released from its budget by the city of Karlovy Vary. Václav Havel's bench was unveiled in the Charles IV Gardens, by the Labitz Bridge, during the 50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The place was chosen for a long time, with the proviso that it should be in the center, and at the same time, if possible, in a visually interesting still life. In the end, Charles IV Gardens won.
