The natural monument (PP) and the site of European importance (EVL) Ratajské rybníky is located in the Protected Landscape Area of ​​Žďárské vrchy, geomorphologically situated in the southeastern part of the Železné Mountains, the name derives from the pond system of three water reservoirs in the Pardubice Region. In terms of regional division landforms (shape of the earth) is specially protected area located Kameničské Highlands, geomorphological precinct Sečská Upland, that is called. Podcelku Iron Mountains. Originally protected natural creation since 1.12.1990, declared by the former District National Committee in Chrudim (former state department of Czechoslovakia). The subject of protection is a system of ponds with bank vegetation and the surrounding preserved peat meadows with the occurrence of protected and endangered plant species. Natural monument with an area of ​​11.4 hectares was declared by Act No. 114/1992 Coll., On Nature and Landscape Protection (former Czechoslovakia). Pond system consists of three superimposed in cascade-made water reservoirs (in terms of position with geographical names Ratajský upper pond of about 1,855 (1.6 ha) Lower Ratajský pond of about 1910 (1.3 ha) and a local name middle Rataják about from 1970 (0.7 ha). The wetlands at the altitudes of 585 to 595 m in the wide valley bounded by the ridge of the Železné Mountains, with the peaks of Medek Hill (638 m), Čertovina (653 m) and Pešava (697 m). stream, which drains water from the site into the river Chrudimka. Natural monument covers the wider area of ​​20.4 hectares at altitudes of 584-602 meters eponymous European significant locality promulgated on April 15, 2005. As part of the system called Natura 2000 is protected under uniform conditions valid in all European Union countries. The subject of protection are the meadows meadows on calcareous, peat and loamy-clay soils, transitional peat bogs and shaking areas and the occurrence of European-important species of butterflies (Marsh and Blue), bryophytes (snail moths), gastropods (Geyer's braid, found here 2011) It is a small terrestrial snail, occurs on permanently wet moorland with a permanent hydrogeological regime, in the area approximately from Hlinsko to Jindřichův Hradec).
