It is remarkable how many great writers of our past are connected with Domažlice. Here you will find places and houses with memorial plaques and memorials by Božena Němcová, Jaroslav Vrchlický, Josef Kajetán Tyl, Karel Jaromír Erben, Alois Jirásek, or Jindřich Jindřich. A memorial plaque to Jaroslav Vrchlický with a sculpture is placed on house number 125 on today's Náměstí míru, in which 9.9. In 1912 the artist died. Today, this house houses the Chodské knihkupectví - how symbolic! Vrchlický stayed in Domažlice a total of three times - in 1869, 1908 (for only two days, and the main reason for his visit was a lecture on Karel Havlíček Borovský), until his third stay was the longest. He arrived on September 8, 1911 as an elderly and ill man. He stayed at the Šumava Hotel, where he was not satisfied. He therefore asked the city council to arrange more suitable housing for him. The council secured him an apartment in the brewery, which outraged the local intelligentsia, after which Professor Václav Fikejz offered to provide Vrchlický with his apartment and move himself to the brewery. Fikejz's apartment is the one with No. 125, on which a memorial plaque is placed. It is remarkable how many great writers of our Czech are associated with Domažlice.
