The first written mention of Polepy is a Latin inscription in one of the Cologne city books from 1343, which mentions two court yards, a mill and several houses called Polip. After 1605 the village fell to the town of Kolín, but already in 1622 he was confiscated for his participation in the Estates Uprising. When Kolín regained the stickers in 1628, they were desolate and so sold them two years later. The village was ravaged again during the Thirty Years' War and was renewed only after 1663. Since 1848, the stickers have been an independent municipality, belonging to the district of Kolín and have around 600 permanent residents. The origin of the name of the village derives from the fact that the locals were engaged in bird hunting and one of the ways was trapping for lime (hence the saying "sit on lime"). The name of the village fluctuated between Polip, Polipy or Polep, the current name has been used since the mid-19th century.
