They are kind and helpful
The magical town of North Bohemia, which is suitable for excursions, has a beautiful nature and surroundings. Nice place both in summer and winter.
As I learned after my visit, the small but picturesque village has a truly turbulent history. It is a very old town, but the year of its origin is unknown. The first written mention of it comes from 1352, when it is mentioned in the so-called papal tithe. The only evidence of its existence before this year is a stone with the year 1144, found in 1596 during the reconstruction of the local church. The German name of the village Kreibitz is of Slavic origin and originated from the word Krzywycza, expressing a meandering stream. The current name Chřibská was created by František Palacký, which was based on the Old Czech word chřib (hill).
The city experienced two major fires (1736 and 1766), devastating floods (1705, 1883, 1897 and 1925) and incursions by enemy troops (1648, 1757, 1778, 1813 and 1866). In August 1848, 142 pounds of gunpowder transported from Saxony to Bohemia exploded in Chřiby Square. The blast claimed three victims.
In 1869, a total of 5,777 inhabitants lived in the Chřiby valley, which is the highest number ever recorded. The vast majority of the population was of German nationality. After the expulsion of the German population in 1945 and 1946, the population dropped dramatically. Resettlement efforts did not produce the expected results, as many of the settlers did not survive the difficult living conditions on the border, and many were only interested in the property left here by the Germans. Abandoned houses fell into disrepair, were destroyed by vandals and then demolished. After 1989, the condition of the village gradually improved. Many houses, both private and municipal, have had new roofs, facades and other improvements.
