Every now and then some place or other reminds me how far Brno in general has come in service, by showing me the sort of service that used to be really common when I first moved here almost 10 years ago. I popped in here (after having to divert to get cash from a bankomat, as they don't seem to take credit cards), and ordered two vrut se skorice. I paid with a 200 CZK note, and the serviceperson seemed to be struggling with making change. So, in my admittedly bad (but still reasonably understandable, or so I've been often told) Czech, I told her I had some change that might make it easier to pay back the extra. Immediately she starts with the "Ježiš Marie's" and huffy attitude. Throws my 200 CZK note on the counter, and asks what it is I want. I said I was only trying to make things easier, but she continues ranting beyond my ability to understand her. I finally got my change, and not so much as a thank you for frequenting her business. Have no fear, though, grumpy salesperson. Next time, I'll just go across the street to Albert to buy mediocre baked goods, where I can be insulted and treated with contempt at MY convenience instead of yours. At least there they take credit cards... Bonus points: The vrut se skorice were stale...
