At the beginning of the 1930s, there was a busy construction activity in Brno. To the north of the city ring, thanks to the activities of a number of construction companies, new metropolitan streets were growing, connecting the town itself with the adjacent villages, which were incorporated into the so-called Greater Brno after 1918. The urban concept of this part of the city was based on a block of flats with inner courtyards and commercially usable partners with a wide range of services.
At the beginning of the 1930s, the architect Jindřich Kumpošt was invited by the housing cooperatives Stavog and Blahobyt to create a design for small apartment buildings on the site of former military buildings between Pod kaštany, Tábor and Kounicová streets. Under the influence of urban tendencies of functionalism, he decided to use a different concept of row construction, which allowed him an ideal east-west orientation of houses, better use of land and the inclusion of quiet green zones. The disadvantage of this solution, however, is the loss of usable street space, because the houses are situated perpendicular to Tábor Street. Of the six planned buildings, Kumpošt built only four outermost ones, and two houses were built on the remaining central plots at the end of the 1930s according to the design of Josef Polášek.
Kumpošt's houses are characterized by a progressive concept of the facade with a motif of strip windows and loggias. Like Josef Polášek in the houses on Vranovská Street, the architect is dealing with a small housing issue here. Both architects used the same type of one-room apartment with a living kitchen with extremely low construction costs (CZK 45,000) thanks to the use of a functionally sophisticated kitchen unit with a minimum space of 4.5 m2.
