Monument to the first Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garigue Masaryk. It was first discovered in Nová Paka on September 11, 1938, a year after his death. The statue by Ladislav Zívr was carved from Istrian marble. It stood at the lower edge of the park, near the Comenius Monument in front of the burgher school building (now Comenius Elementary School). With the advent of the Nazi occupation, it was torn down in 1939 and irretrievably damaged. After the war, on May 2, 1948, a new monument to TGM was unveiled. The statue came again from the workshop of Ladislav Zívr, but this time it was made of Hořice sandstone and placed in a still life below the Grammar School. After the death of Jan Masaryk, the students of the Grammar School, Tůma and Pavlovec, provided the pedestal of the monument with the inscription KSČ. The inscription faded, but the monument was destroyed ten years later. The one you can see there today is a copy of the previous statue of Zívra. It was unveiled on September 12, 1992.
