The church was built between 1709 and 1732 as part of the Pauline monastery, perhaps according to the designs of Christopher Ignatius Dientzenhofer. The church and the monastery used to be a place of pilgrimage, and there were 20000 pilgrims coming in one year ... The church was said to have been famous for miracles and the pilgrimages were to be held there.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. It is the most important monument of Nova Paka. The church is one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in Central Europe.
