According to a land register stored in the Trutnov archives, the settlement of Haindorf was established in the years 1767-1783. Before the first cottages were built, deep forests stretched here, through which a busy trade route from Trutnov to Jaroměř led. In the forests below Liščí hora, however, it was not safe, formans and wayfarers attacked all sorts of gangs of robbers who roamed the region. By 1801, 23 families had settled in Haindorf. The cottagers made a living as weavers and lumberjacks or worked in a quarry or made grinding stones. Haindorf did not grow. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the village had 23 houses with 121 inhabitants - all of them Germans. After their post-war eviction, the village almost disappeared. We know from sources that in 1950 only two cottages were inhabited, the others quickly fell into disrepair. The settlement in the woods, which has retained its original character to this day due to its remoteness, was saved by cottagers. Most houses serve them. A legend is associated with the settlement. In order to understand it, it is necessary to describe the local terrain. Access to the wooded area, where two rows of cottages appear along the way, is not easy. The unpaved road rises sharply from Hajnice to the cottages under Liščí vrch - there is an elevation gain of 100 meters on one kilometer. On the other hand, in the direction from Kohoutov, it is similar. Formans with loaded cars did not have it easy. They rested in an inn in Brusnice, Germany, and before they began their ride over the hill to Haindorf, they took a couple of extra horses, the so-called carriages. In Haindorf, the borrowed horses were then unleashed again. The village has therefore long been popularly called the "Beam". Legend has it that one day a forman and the others in the pub bet that he could make the trip even without a hand. Halfway through the road he was caught in the night, the horses stopped by fatigue and could not go on. There was only darkness around and no one far and wide. The sober forman turned to the saints and promised that if they helped him in the distress he found himself in, he would have their paintings placed along the way. That's how it happened. The horses overcame the rest of the hill, and Forman kept his promise. Along the way from Brusnice to Kohoutov, he had 14 "chapels" built with wood carvings depicting holy "helpers". This is where the legend ends. Whatever the origin of the chapels with the saints, it is known that the paintings were later moved to the cottages. In recent years, the original cabinets have been replaced by new ones, which are a true copy, but instead of woodcuts, there are pictures inside. However, wood carvings have been preserved in some cottages to this day. At one end of the road was erected a large wooden cross, which was consecrated.
