Ostravská Laguna

The lake, which people call the "Ostrava Sea", covers an area of ​​4.5 hectares and retains 180,000 cubic meters of water, which were drawn here from the river Ostravice. Clean water in an attractive environment invites you to swim. But this is strictly forbidden in this technical tank! The bottom of the lake consists of base layers and special foils. However, the subsoil is not stable. If the sealing foils were to be damaged in any way, the water in the tank would drop and the swimmers would be trapped! They wouldn't be able to climb ashore after the slippery foil! But even if you don't swim in the lake on the Hrabůvka Heap, this place is definitely worth a visit. Here you can feel like you are at a sea bay somewhere in Scandinavia. The immediate vicinity of the lake is formed by steppe vegetation. In addition, you will not see any urban development from the top of the heap, only the panorama of the Beskydy Mountains, another heap on the horizon and, as a typical Ostrava bonus, the smoking chimneys of the smelter. Here you can see a pheasant, a roe deer, a hare, but also flying predators. A mallard, teal, seagull and, exceptionally, a cormorant stay on the water surface. Quite a decent place to walk. Uneducated visitors are a big problem. Everything they bring with them (bottles, papers, cans, etc.) will be left in place. Even old tires. Mini-landfills are slowly forming here. :-(
