Chapel of St. Jiljí is a small niche building built in 2002 by the locals in Svratouch in the Pardubice region, in the natural area of Žďárské vrchy. The alcove chapel stands by the local road leading from the village center along the slope of Karlštejn hill (784 m), about halfway to the hunting lodge of the same name built in the 18th century at the top of the hill. The niche of the chapel is glazed, inside is a picture of St. Jiljí, to whom the chapel is dedicated. Saint Giles (perhaps lived between 640 and 710 AD) came from Athens, Greece, and was a monk and hermit of his own accord. According to legend, he lived in a cave and ate a milk-tamed rope, so he is considered the patron saint of nursing mothers (doe), also the disabled (he was wounded by an arrow), beggars (for his charity), forests and blacksmiths. Next to the chapel there is an information board, which lists the sacral building in connection with the nearby hunting lodge Karlštejn. In its place allegedly stood in the years 1708 to 1770 the chapel of St. Jiljí, then built into the castle building. The niche chapel was built as a monument to the original chapel (today the chateau chapel of the Karlštejn hunting lodge, since July the building has been open to the public, with a gallery in it). Alcove chapel of St. Jiljí in Svratouch accessible by a local road from the village center towards the hunting lodge Karlštejn, along it there is also a cycle route 4120 (section Svratouch - Čachnov). From the chapel there is a view of Žďárské vrchy, the closest Louckého hill (700 m) still in the cadastral area of Svratouch, in the distance a ridge with significant peaks of Šindelný vrch (806 m) and Kamenný vrch (802 m), less noticeable on the ridge of Za zaty (713) and perhaps up to Suchý kopec (614 m). The location of the village Svratouch has been located since 1970 in the Protected Landscape Area Žďárské vrchy. I recommend it for easy walks, even though the chapel itself stands on a relatively steep slope, there is also a small bench for sitting.
