Alte Veste, the ruins of an old fortress demolished by the mercenaries of the powerful Nuremberg patricians in the 16th century, standing on a 300-meter hill near Zirndorf. The site of a two-day battle between the Swedish army of King Gustav Adolf and the imperial army commanded by Wallenstein, who, having organized a powerful military camp, effectively blocked the actions of the Swedes standing near Nuremberg for several months. The two-day battle, fought between September 2 and 3, 1632, is considered pending, but it was the Swedes who were unable to get their heavy artillery through the hard-defended Archduke Maximilian fords on the Redniz River and after bloody direct assaults on the steep, fortified Alte Veste hill , they were the first to leave the battlefield. Here the myth of the invincible "Lion of the North" has broken. Gustaw Adolf's army could be stopped! In 1908. a stone lookout tower was built in the ruins of the fortress. Currently closed deafly. There are quite a few picturesque routes leading to the top. Including the Wallenstein trail running among rocks and a neglected forest. Interesting place, worth visiting, but somewhat cluttered and neglected
