Krankenhaus- und Klosterkirche St. Joseph

A beautiful, magnificently designed neo-Gothic church in today's heart of Koblenz. Until a few years ago, the hospital was also home to a convent of the Catholic Men's Order of the Brothers of Mercy of Maria Hilf, which has since been abandoned in favor of other start-ups. Nevertheless, the church, in which masses are celebrated every day, enjoys a small, stable community of visitors, which consists mainly of spiritual men and women from the neighborhood. The chaplain is a really exceptionally friendly and affectionate person who knows how to address his fellow human beings in his calm, loving, empathetic manner - not just from the (non-existent) pulpit. A special 'highlight' of the house of God are two galleries that are separately accessible through the respective stations of the house: On the first gallery (accessible from the first floor), among other things, the pipe organ is located on a broader plateau. The second gallery, accessible via the second floor, is significantly narrower and ends directly below the magnificently painted church sky. This very feeling (to be in a place that you normally only see from very far below) is quite unique and although it offers patients with a restricted range of motion the opportunity to visit a measurement, it also requires good nerves. Visitors with a head for heights should by no means do without this special atmosphere, if the opportunity presents itself to them.
