Schmidt Electronic GmbH

This is the mediocre Old School German Customer Service that you once in a while hear about. I visited Schmidt Electronic on May 2nd 2013, looking for a Voltage converter to use with a 110 Volt US appliance. Mr. Schmidt was very friendly and gave me all kinds of advice. The Voltage converter was a little expensive, at 50 Euro, but I was willing to pay for the good service. After visiting his store, I went on to Conrad Electronic next to the Mainz Hbh to buy some other items I needed which Mr. Schmidt did not carry, and found another Voltage converter equivalent to the one I had bought before but for half the Price. I purchased it and immediately at Conrad and called Mr. Schmidt to let him know about this situation expecting him to accept a return. I was willing to pay a little more for his product, but twice the price was a little too much. He was immediately very impolite at the phone, accusing me of being a typical “smart ass”, as in going on the internet right after my purchase to find the same product at half the price... and he hung up on me without letting me talk. I called back to try to explain that I had not gone to the internet, but had gone just a couple blocks away to find the less expensive product. He continued being totally impolite, saying things like “oh, I am glad to hear that, thank you very much, good bye...” I told him he had just lost a customer forever.... I went back to Conrad, explained the situation to them and they immediately accepted my return of the second converter I had bought and wished me a nice day. I understand that a national chain as Conrad can offer good return policies, and that a small neighborhood shop such as Mr. Schmidt´s can´t easily compete with such businesses, but this is about proper business ethic and good manners. Shame on Mr. Schmidt. I don’t expect him to care about my comments, but it might help someone else think twice before shopping at his store. By the way, Mr. Schmidt did not even give me a receipt for the purchase...

I once brought my old 70s amplifier there and a radio from an old Beetle. I was and am very satisfied with both repairs. In our throwaway society, repair skills can unfortunately no longer be found on every corner. Thumbs up!

Hello, I normally don't give any reviews, but here it's different: You can't be more disappointed: the "repair" took an extremely long time, was a 3-fold economic total loss without consultation - as agreed. Afterwards the pile of broken pieces was bigger than before the "repair". Unfortunately more than just annoying.

Hopefully this specialty shop will stay with us. A treasure trove - also of knowledge.
