Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (Leipzig main station, IATA: XIT) is the central railway terminus in Leipzig, Germany. At 83,460 square metres (898,400 sq ft), it is Europe's largest railway station measured by floor area. It has 19 overground platforms housed in six iron train sheds, a multi-level concourse with towering stone arches, and a 298 metres (978 ft) long facade. Two Leipzig City Tunnel platforms were inaugurated in December 2013.The station is operated by DB Station&Service, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, and is classified as a Category 1 station, one of twenty in Germany. It also functions as a large shopping centre. Train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn, S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland, Erfurter Bahn and Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn. As of 2008, Leipzig Hauptbahnhof handled an average of 120,000 passengers per day.
Outside nice inside a catastrophy if you want to TRAVEL by train.
To get a 1st class ticket took me exactly 1h. Where you expect ticket counter you will find fast food restaurants, perfumeries and shops only.
After you find ticket counter in the basement then you queue up in a line for 30 minutes. The lady who sells you a ticket talks but does not listen. Is interrupting you several times if if you note that it would be kind of her to let you finish a sentence.
In the end your train is gone.
In Austria you can buy tickets in the 1st class lounge. This is not possible in Leipzig.
Conclusio: outside a nice old building once made for public (transportation). Inside an ugly shopping mall making it impossible to travel in time if you don't by tickets online.
I love this place for grocery shopping because its near my house😜
Pretty ok place. The only reason im giving 3 stars is because there is no ramen noodle shop on the roof otherwise 5stars!
A rather nice looking station with an impressive size. However during the winter it can get quite cold inside with no places where you can warm up. There is a great variety of stores here. Because of this finding something to eat is quite easy. There are also a number of clothing shops and etcetera making it easy to shop or buy a gift for someone if you forgot to buy one.
