The Catholic Church of St. Corpus Christi in Homburg is a remarkable object of modern sacred architecture. It is a round church with a flat translucent tower and a freestanding bell tower, designed by the architect Herbert Lück. The church is dedicated to the feast of Corpus Christi, in which the belief that the living presence of Christ manifests itself in the act of the Eucharist in bread-shape, consists. It refers to the Lord's Supper. The curate of St. Corpus Christi was officially opened on 20 June 1961 by Bishop Isidor Markus Emanuel, which enabled the construction on 13 May 1962. On November 29, 1964, the first Sunday of Advent, was then consecrated the church by the bishop. Regrettably, on February 23, 1974, an arson attack that damaged the church so much that was thought about a demolition of the building. However, the dome-like building could be rescued and after successful restoration on the 1st Sunday of Advent 1974 resume its proper provision. Another restoration took place in 1999. In 2008 and 2009, the church was extended by the addition of a parish hall, a sacristy and a youth room. The bell tower has six open floors, above which is the bell-tower with a cross-shaped design in the façade. A cross is mounted on the roof. The interior of the round church offers a vivid design in that the benches form two semicircular groupings towards the altar. Artfully, the twelve semicircular glass windows designed by the artist August Deppe from Homburg take on their own. In the center of the church, hanging above the altar, is the commemorative cross, a work of the artist Gernot Waldner, attached. On a gallery behind the altar, the organ is placed, which fits well in the form despite classical design. It is a modern church that focuses on the essentials through simple design and furnishings. The perceptible emptiness in the church space draws the attention of the existing objects, whereby the colored windows favors through the daylight, to gain full validity. It seems to me a sacred building, in which the purpose and the art claim is meaningfully united.
