Europcar Bonn

I booked a car for a 2-week vacation at Europcar Potsdamer Platz in Bonn. The category that I reserved (mid-sized, automatic) was not available. To resvolve the issue I was offered a bigger car. So far so good. When I returned the vehicle I noticed on the bill that an upgrade charge of 155 euro was charged to my credit card. At no point was I informed about any additional costs, nor is it in line with the company policy to not charge any fees when a certain category is not available. The staff member told me that he was not authorized to make a decision and to come back the next day. The next day I came back and again I was told that the staff on duty was from an outside staff agency and had no decision authority. The friendly gentlemen told me they would investigate the issue and I could expect a call back from management. Again nothing happened. I tried calling the billing department at Europcar. The associate here was rude and said I should contact the third party booking agency; not Europcar. A week has passed and it seems to be impossible to get this issue resolved. It is very frustrating and not the first time this happened to me at this company. I hope Europcar realizes that these tactics will result in upset clients. Next time I will definitely rent elsewhere! *** Update January 2021 Almost six months have passed and instead of re-imbursing the outstanding amount, Europcar has by accident charged me again for the same upgrade fee. Numerous e-mails to the location Manager Mr. Steuernagel were unanswered and various letters from the debt collection agency were received. Now that I received a warning notice from the district court I decided to update my last review. Please think twice before renting a car here. Mr. Steuernagel and his team are very unprofessional and are not capable of rectifiying a simple billing error.
