-Nice Café with a small room downstairs and more places upstairs. Excellent cakes, pies and tarts, tea and coffee. Heritage style from 19th century in a historic building.- Update June 2017: The management is changing and quality of service varies. Reduced from 5 to 3 stars. Update October 2017: Closed for renovation, the photos may no longer fit the upcoming location. New owner and new name. This review was for the predecessor of the "Café Geg'nüber", the "Café Anno Dazumal". The review was occupied by the new owner by overtaking not only the rooms but also the Google Business Entry of the former venue. I declare this review invalid and reduce the rating to the average 3 stars. To remind people, 1 star is for a crappy location with cockroaches in the corners, 2 stars for under-performers, 3 stars for the common and average service, a place for the hungry and thirsty, 4 stars for an above average service and a recommendation for an extra stop, if you are nearby, and 5 stars for something worth to travel there because "it" is there and it doesn't matter how far away you are. Deleted the no longer suitable photos.

Formerly Café Anno Dazumal, today - for several years - Café Geg‘nüber. We have been regular guests here for years and will definitely come back regularly in the future. The cafe is really nicely done inside and out and is easy to get to both by car and on foot. There are hiking trails in the vicinity that are worth a day trip (followed by an extended visit to the café). Dannenfels is a quiet place and you can linger comfortably and quietly here in the café. There are a variety of delicious cakes every day. I'm a big cheesecake lover. The saying "Pieces of cake under 300 grams are biscuits" - which, by the way, is posted on the cake counter - is not just an empty phrase here, it is also implemented. A piece of cake is correspondingly large and the price is moderate. You only have to pay a moderate price for a coffee. Overall cheap, but really very good. The coffee is too bitter for me personally, but my mother-in-law tastes all the better. The café is accordingly busy on weekends. But you usually get a free seat. During Corona, of course, most visitors want to sit outside. There is actually enough parking space for every guest in the immediate vicinity, but you cannot expect to be able to park directly at the café and sometimes you have to walk a few meters. In this respect, I cannot understand why the café is almost always completely blocked. In particular, motorcyclists with loud machines, right next to the table (there is a couple of seats right by the drive through) let me understand why local residents complain about motorcycle noise elsewhere. The waitresses in the Café Geg‘nüber are always friendly. Sometimes it takes a little longer to be served, but that's fine with us, after all, we're not on the run. A small drawback: there is a manhole cover on the edge of the seating outside. Seldom - but every now and then - does a gush of unpleasant air blow over to the seats. Something could be done about that. Otherwise we are really impressed, can recommend Café Geg’nüber unreservedly and will continue to come here in the future.
