Strangely enough, if a lawyer is intellectually overstrained or too reluctant to spend two years doing his doctorate, but has to decorate himself for self-improvement with a PhD. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, a university degree in law usually concludes with the degree of "doctor práv", abbreviated to JUDr. This is a doctoral degree, referred to as a "small doctoral degree", which is a doctoral degree, although it is not based on scientific research. According to the Slovak Higher Education Act, this degree does not correspond to the degree program leading to the acquisition of doctor práv. This divides higher education - apparently according to the Bologna classification - in three stages. The acquisition of "doctor práv" will be dealt with in the second stage. The "JUDr." also entitles the holder to a doctorate in Germany and therefore does not qualify for a German doctoral degree, which belongs to the third stage of the Bologna classification.
