Brunnen der Fischweiber

Pleasant enough fountain in the shape of a four-leaf clover, in the Fishmarkt square. The sculpture shows some “fish wives” selling their wares.

Very cozy square, with colorful, fabulous houses and everything against the backdrop of the church of St. Martin. Around there are many souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants from which you can admire both the square and the beautiful view of the Rhine.

The Feschwievern is a fountain just to the east of.Gross St. Martin and in the old fish market. The fountain is shaped like a four leaf clover and the water flows into the fountain from the sculptural centrepiece. The sculpture depicts some rather sad looking “fish wives” i.e the wife of fishermen, calling out their fish catch for sale, alluding to its location as the old fish market of Cologne. I’m giving this a slightly higher rating because the traditional houses on the square and Gross Saint Martins make a nice backdrop. Take a look if in the area, otherwise it’s not really worth the effort.

A beautiful fountain in the middle of the old town of Cologne. With a view of St. Martin and the Rhine. You can sit down in 1 restaurant in the immediate vicinity and enjoy the square and the view of the Rhine. From here you can quickly get anywhere in the old town and Cologne Cathedral.
