Sadly, I feel it is my responsibility to write a truthful and honest review of Mr Vogt, and my experience with Vogt Engineering.
The job was a simple rebuild/repair of a cylinder head for a 1974 BMW 2002. I expressed a budget, and the exact work that I wanted to be done, and supplied many of the parts for him that I would like to be installed.
Not only did it take MORE THAN 1 year to complete this simple job, the job was done improperly 3 times, and was not informed that it would cost 1000+ euro more than what I expressed as my budget.
The first repair attempt was refused because important requested performance parts had been ignored, and Mr Vogt chose instead to install old worn parts. The second repair was again returned for the improper assembly of the cylinder head, which was not discovered until the motor had been assembled and risking damage to the motor. It was again repaired a 3rd time by re-using incorrectly sized used parts that had to be replaced.
In order to get the repair successfully done, I had to seek legal council. Instead of accepting his mistakes, he chose lie and to blame me, the customer.
After repair was attempted the 3rd time and Mr. Vogt had already been paid for his work 6 months before, Mr. Vogt refused to return necessary parts that did not belong to him unless I signed a document I did not agree to.
In order to retrieve my property, I was forced to call the Police to document and help settle the dispute.
I would definitely use caution when choosing Mr. Vogt, and Vogt Engineering in your next repair to your valued and loved vehicle. I have never had such a bad experience with a mechanic.
An Update- When discussing the project I instructed him to use new parts when necessary, including the valves. He chose to use all 8 of the original valves against my recommendations.
Less than a year later I removed the cylinder head to build a new bottom end. Upon inspection by a highly qualified and excellent machinist who also did not have nice experiences with Mr. Vogt, all 8 of those valves were bent. There is no plausible reason as to why, other than that they were installed in this condition, which explained why the motor never ran as well as it should. All 8 valves had to be replaced, and the new motor runs amazing, no thanks to Vogt Tuning.
Well, after the departure day for our vacation was getting closer and closer and I hadn't got an appointment in the repair shop at home ... I left with a bad feeling ... and then it started near the Feldberg ... No more engine power and constant misfires ..... After a half sleepless night and research who is familiar with air-cooled boxer engines, my choice fell on Vogt Engineering and I have to say that was an excellent choice! I went there and because of the misery on vacation I was accepted immediately ....! Great!! And the really necessary, complete readjustment of both double carburetors including new nozzle equipment and the repair of two outlet Vertile was done with the greatest expertise and impressive arrangement ... !!!! I have to thank you again for that. The car now runs better than ever before .... and has been optimized here as I would have liked at home .... It's just a shame that this specialist workshop is about 600km away ....
Although I arrived on short notice and spontaneously with a motorcycle with massive (yes, self-inflicted) carburetor problems - the problem was solved with a lot of effort and knowledge. Absolute recommendation!
Horny guy.
Mr. I visited Vogt after an accident, because my engine after repair of the vehicle was not as lively as before this. The carburetors were perfectly matched. I am more than enthusiastic. So makes the Bulli drive even more fun than before :-) All thumbs up. In the conversation you can see how much experience. Vogt has. He tries to explain everything as clearly as possible.
