Wonderful cave. Worth the approx. a one-hour hike from the entrance of the national park. A ticket must be purchased at the entrance. You can't get lost, take the coastal path forward for about 10 minutes and then turn left into the woods. The path leads straight to the cave. Torch, lamp required.

Not sure how the cave was because we were told it was 250 pesos per person without a guide. No tickets or sign to show actual entrance price. We paid no more than 50 pesos elsewhere in the DR to hike waterfalls ect. Felt like a scam. The price came down to $150 per person when we left confirming that assumption.

The end of the road in Playa Dominicus takes you to the hotel Cadaques. Once there, you’ll find the entrance to the Cotubanama National Park. Pass the gate and continue driving on the dirt road till you’ll get to a paradisiac, small public beach squeezed between the hotel and the park (see pictures). Some people were camping there at the time of our visit (Christmas Day). We didn’t know what to expect but we are glad we tried to visit, as there was a park guardian there who collected $200 pesos each to let us in (locals in Bayahibe had told us that there probably wouldn’t be anyone there on a holiday. They had also discouraged us from going there by ourselves. They said some tourists had gotten lost and others had been beaten up and robbed in the middle of the path). The guardian who received us said it was no problem going by ourselves, and we felt comfortable doing so. The path is a pleasant, easy walk in the jungle. There’s no way one could get lost (only perhaps if you miss the tiny “cueva del puente” sign to the left after some 45 minute walk and keep going straight instead). No bandits crossed our way either. No mosquitos in the afternoon, no snakes or other dangers either, at least none I was aware of. The cave itself is magnificent. Huge, many chambers, several rock formations. As per pre-Columbian indigenous art, we wish we had a guide with us, as we couldn’t find much on the walls (see picture of engravings). There are bats but the ceiling is high enough that it is not too scary. A torch is required.
