If you want to escape to a rustic and majestic location of the Caribbean Mountains, inspired by the beginning of 1930 in the country hills of Dominican Republic, this is the place to go. Lush and mature vegetation of cocoa trees, coffee, avocado, mangoes, wild flowers and more will be all around you. We visited “Finca La Protectora” located in Ranchete Puerto Plata, as an escape to connect back to nature. Our host Mario and Raquel were amazing, what an excellent customer service and entertainment. They prepared for us fresh roast pork with plantains for dinner and later on we’ve indulge with hot organic cocoa harvested in their land. If you want to experience true Dominican Country living embraced by Nature, this is the place to go.

You can start from here to a lot of MTB-and trackingtours and after enjoy this silent place for the next hard trail

I stayed at this fascinating project with a group of mountain bikers on an arduous MTB tour. For us this was a great place to recover, as at this altitude it is refreshingly cool in the evening. The rustic cabanas are clean, simple yet built with an eye for detail. Comfortable beds, refreshing showers. No hot water, which is fine with me. When we arrived, we rehydrated with fruit juice and aromtic teas. For supper there was ample tasty food. Buffet breakfast offered plenty of choice for carbing up, notably excellent mangoo. Hot coffee and rich hot cacao plus fruit juices and teas. Great start to the ride. All the food, fruit, coffee, cacao, teas are grown on the finca, which creates employment for locals. The meat is sourced locally. Mario Gonzalez runs the project and is a mine of information. He ably supported by Raquel. I can highly recommend staying here to chill, learn about sustainable farming, enjoy the views, go for walks. The dirt track from Ranchete up to the finca is steep. Just about doable on a mountain bike if you are in very good shape. Most guests get picked up in Ranchete and ride up to the finca in a 4x4 pick-up truck. Bikes fit in the back.

A wonderful experience, it is a very quiet place, a totally natural environment, excellent for meditation and reflection. First class services. Very helpful and friendly staff.

It was an extraordinary experience, I think I will never forget that place, it is a direct contact with nature, something different from what tourism offers. I just want to go back again and again. Thanks to all the staff who receive you there; Josefina with her charming and unforgettable food and warm embraces, Mario with his welcome and jocularity that makes you feel part of the family and the charming Raquel who with her attentions, embrace and her knowledge that leaves us all perplexed and with the desire to stay. . That place is part of me. But above all I invite you to have the experience, for sure you will not regret it.
